Traditionally, a quinceañera is a ceremony that celebrates the transition from childhood to young adulthood. Some families choose to follow a custom of incorporating a doll that represents the last “toy” of the young lady’s childhood. Sometimes the doll is GIVEN to the quinceañera as her last doll and other times the quinceañera GIVES the doll to a younger sibling or other young child of importance. Both are acceptable and really depends on what the family chooses to do. Whichever route you decide to go, I’m more than happy to help you coordinate this dance. When you think about traditional Quiceañera dances you think of the main three: entrance, waltz, and surprise dance. Where does your mom fit into this big event in your life? Have you considered including your mom in a special dance the same way you would with your dad? It’s definitely something to consider! A very common practice (and a symbolic tradition) is the one where the Quinceañera changes from flats to heels during her ceremony that symbolizes the transition from a girl to a young woman. Many times, in my experience, the young lady prefers to dance in her flats and will switch back into her flats before commencing her waltz with her court of honor. Whether you stay in your heels or switch back to your flats, be sure that whatever shoes you choose you are able to dance in comfortably. And if you find that the shoes are too big or too tight, break them in before the day of the event!

It’s been quite a year! I have kept busy with back to back quinceaneras and sweet 16’s and even wedding dances the past year.. I’ve finally had some time to sit down and work on a highlight reel from some of my most recent waltzes. I’ve noticed that the father daughter surprise dance is becoming more common. 🙂 This is a dance in the middle of a traditional waltz danced by the father and the Quinceañera. When contacting me, let me know if this is also something you are interested in and we can definitely work something out! Nothing gets the crowd pumped up more than seeing the parents or father or mother dance with their daughter!
